Course Overview

The Diploma in Public Management curriculum focuses on public management including mandate & functions. It is designed to develop a new crop of leaders that provide solutions to 21st-century challenges and offer the first logical step in producing a motivated person equipped to function in entry-level Diploma positions with a strong foundation for continued career growth. It combines conceptual knowledge in key disciplinary areas with the strong technical knowledge required for workplace performance. The curriculum has a strong emphasis on project work thus building the problem-solving and critical thinking skills needed by Public Management professionals.

Who Can Join

To be eligible for admission, the applicant must be a holder of one of the following:

  • KCSE certificate with a minimum of an aggregate of C-
  • EACE/KCE/KACE/EAACE certificate with a minimum of four (4) credits in any four subjects at ‘O’ level, One principal at A level.
  • 12th-grade certificate with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5.
  • IGCSE certificate with a minimum of four (4) upper-level passes.
  • GCE certificate with a minimum of four (4) upper level passes at ‘O’ level and ‘A’ level passes of C grade.
  • IB certificate with four (4) upper-level passes
  • Any other qualification(s) that may be approved by the university senate.

Entry Qualifications

  • KCSE mean grade C-
Duration & Structure of  The Programme
  • The DPM programme comprises Five (5) trimesters offered in One and a half (1½) calendar years.
  • Courses shall be offered in terms of units, one unit being defined as a series of 35 one-hour lectures. For this purpose, a one-hour lecture is equivalent to a two-hour tutorial or a three-hour practical period, or an equivalent amount of other assigned study or practical experience of any combination of these:
    • Based on individual preference a student can register for a maximum of SEVEN (7) course units per trimester (except in Trimester One, where there are six subjects). The minimum number of units a student can register per trimester is THREE (3) provided that all the required units are covered within a maximum of THREE
    • The normal duration for the programme shall be calendar YEARS and not more than THREE calendar years.
    • There shall be ONE Industrial attachment of 8 weeks.
    • A Student MUST pass the first trimester, which is a basic trimester for this programme (i.e. No carryover from this trimester).
